Merging records

Merge two records of the same object into one, choose which values survive, and see what moves across before the other is deleted.

When the same customer exists twice in Syncek, merge the two records into one. Open either of them and click the Merge record icon at the top of the record page, then pick the duplicate. Syncek keeps one record, moves the other's links, notes, comments and list memberships across, and deletes it. A merge cannot be undone.

Merging two records

  1. Open a record and click Merge record, the icon in the row at the top of the page.
  2. Search for the duplicate. It has to be a record of the same object, and a merge takes exactly two.
  3. The record on the right is kept and the one on the left is deleted. The one you opened starts on the right, and Swap records, between the two, turns that around.
  4. Click Merge records.

The Merge records item in the More options menu is disabled. Use the icon.

Which values survive

Where both records hold a value, the kept record's value wins. Open Review fields to see every field side by side, and click a value on the left to keep it instead. A field only the deleted record has filled is copied across. If a required field is empty on both, Syncek blocks the merge until one of them has a value.

What moves across

  • Links to other records, including links other records hold to the deleted one.
  • Its notes and comments.
  • Its list memberships. When both records are in the same list, the kept record's entry and its list values stay.

Email is matched by address, not moved. After the merge, the kept record shows the mail of the email address it ends up holding, so keep the address whose history you want. The deleted record's activity history stays behind, and the merge itself shows in the kept record's Activity.

Finding the duplicates is a question about your data before it is a Syncek one.
