# Linking records on import

A Syncek import can link each row to records and people already in the
workspace: a contact to the account it works at, an opportunity to the member who
owns it, a record to a team. You write a name in the cell, Syncek looks it up
while the import runs, and a name it cannot find leaves that field empty. What a
row names has to exist before the import that names it.

## Bring in what is being pointed at first

A link can only reach a record that exists. Import **Accounts** before
**Contacts**, and both before the **Opportunities** that name them.

## What to write in the cell

For a **User** field such as **Owner**, write the member's full name. For a
**Team** field, write the team's name.

For a **Reference** or **Relationship** field, such as a contact's account, write
the name of the linked record as it appears in Syncek. Syncek ignores capital letters, but the spelling has to match.

In a **Relationship** column, when no name matches exactly, Syncek links the one
record whose name contains what you wrote, if there is only one. `Acme` links to `Acme Holdings` when that is the
only account with `Acme` in its name.

## Fix names before the import runs

In **Review values**, open a **User**, **Team** or **Reference** column. Names
Syncek matched are marked **Automatically mapped**, and the rest **Needs review**,
email addresses and partial names included. Pick the right member, team or record
for each one: **Skip & continue** leaves those fields empty.

A **Relationship** column, such as a contact's account, has no picker there, and
its names are listed under **Automatically mapped** without being checked. They
have to be right in the file.

## When a name is still not found

The row is imported with that field left empty. The counts on **Imports** do not
flag it, so open a few imported records and check their links before you import
the next file.
