# Roles and permissions

Everyone in a Syncek workspace has one of four roles: **Owner**, **Admin**, **Member**
or **Guest**. A role applies to the whole workspace. A Guest can read records but
not change them. There is no permission on a single object, list or record, so a
Member can see and edit every record in the workspace.

## What each role can do

- **Member** creates, edits and [deletes records](https://syncek.com/docs/your-data/deleting-records), imports and exports, saves views,
  writes notes and sends email.
- **Admin** also runs the workspace, including its name, its members, protected
recipients, and the data model in **Settings, then Data, then Objects** and
  **Settings, then Data, then Lists**.
- **Owner** is also the only role that can delete an object, a list or the
  [workspace itself](https://syncek.com/docs/account/workspaces-and-organizations). Whoever creates a
  workspace is its Owner.
- **Guest** changes nothing. A Guest who tries sees "Guests have read-only access.
Ask an admin to change your role."

## Changing a role

In **Settings, then Workspace, then Members**, Admins and the Owner open the menu
at the end of a person's row, choose **Manage roles**, and pick **Admin**,
**Member** or **Guest**. You can only change someone below you, so only the Owner
changes an Admin, and nobody changes their own role.

Changing a role needs the Pro plan or above. On Starter, Syncek refuses the
change. Roles already given stay as they are if the plan changes.

**Remove from workspace** sits in the same menu. The records and notes the
person created stay in the workspace, under their name. If it was their only
workspace, they also leave the organization.

## Inviting people

Organization Admins and the Owner send invitations from **Settings, then
Organization, then Users and teams**, with **Invite users**. A workspace Admin
can also invite from that workspace's **Members** page, with **Invite people**.
Every invitation names at least one workspace. The role in the invitation is Member unless you change it,
and it sets the person's role in the organization. In the workspaces the
invitation names, they join as a Member, or as a Guest if invited as one. Make
someone a workspace Admin on its Members page once they have joined.
