# Email templates

An email template in Syncek is a saved subject, body and set of attachments that
you load into a new email. Templates live under **Templates** in the Emails area
and belong to the whole workspace, so anyone but a Guest can use, edit or delete any
of them. Variables in a template fill in values from the record you are writing to,
such as a contact's first name.

## Creating a template

In **Templates**, click **New template**, fill in **Name** and **Subject**, and
write the body. To use variables, pick the object under **Variables** first, then
click **Add variable** or type `{` in the body. **Save** stores it.

To turn an email you have already written into a template, click the **Save as
template** icon in the composer.

**Duplicate** copies a template, and the star favorites it for the whole
workspace.

## Loading one into an email

- The **Load template** icon in the composer.
- **Templates**, at the top of any Emails page, starts a new email from one.
- **Use template**, in a template's menu.

Loading a template replaces the email's subject, body and attachments without
asking, your [signature](https://syncek.com/docs/email/signatures) included, so load it before you start
typing.

## How variables fill in

A variable takes its value from the record linked to the email's **To**
recipient, and **To** takes a single address. Cc and Bcc never count. When a
variable has nothing to fill in, the composer says so before you send, for
example `2 will be blank`, and the email can still go out with those left empty.
Click a variable to give it a **Fallback**, the text used when the record has no
value.

is a question about your process rather than about Syncek. Sending itself is
covered in [Email in Syncek](https://syncek.com/docs/email/overview).
