# Signing in and passwords

You sign in to Syncek with a Google account, a GitHub account, or an email address
and password. If you forget the password, **Forgot password?** on the sign-in page
emails you a link to set a new one. Once you are in, **Settings, then Personal,
then Security** is where you change the password, and **Devices** lists every
browser signed in to your account so you can sign any of them out.

To add a second step to signing in, see [Two-step verification](https://syncek.com/docs/account/two-step-verification).

## Ways to sign in

The sign-in page offers **Google** and **GitHub** first, then **Email** and
**Password**. Google and GitHub open in a pop-up window, so allow pop-ups for
Syncek if nothing happens. **Linked accounts**, on your
[Profile](https://syncek.com/docs/account/personal-settings), shows which ways your account uses.

Signing in with Google does not connect your Gmail. Syncek reads and sends email
only from a mailbox you connect separately, in **Settings, then Personal, then
Integrations**. See [Connect Gmail](https://syncek.com/docs/email/connect-gmail).

To sign out, open the workspace menu at the top of the sidebar and choose
**Log out**.

## If you forgot your password

1. On the sign-in page, click **Forgot password?**, enter your email and click
   **Send reset link**.
2. Syncek shows the same "Check your email" page whether or not the address has an
account, so it never reveals who has signed up. If yours has one, an email titled
   "Reset your Syncek password" arrives.
3. Open its link, type the new password twice and click **Reset password**. Then
   sign in with it.

If the link no longer works, the page says so and offers **Request a new reset
link**.

## Password rules

A password needs at least 8 characters, with a lowercase letter, an uppercase
letter, a number and a special character. The form ticks each rule off as you type
and keeps its button off until all five pass.

## Changing your password

In **Settings, then Personal, then Security**, the **Password** section asks for
your **Current password**, a **New password** and **Confirm new password**, then
**Update password**. It appears only on an account that has a password: if you
sign in only with Google or GitHub, there is none to change.

Changing your password leaves your other devices signed in. To sign them out, use
**Devices**.

## Devices

**Settings, then Personal, then Devices** lists every session signed in to your
account, one row each, with the browser and system, the location or IP address,
and **Created** and **Updated** dates. Yours is marked **Current**.

- The menu at the end of a row has **Finish**, which signs that session out. On
**Current**, it signs you out here.
- **Sign out**, beside "Sign out of all devices including this one.", signs every
session out, this one included, and returns you to the sign-in page.
